Happy 2015!!

Hello again! I just wanted to drop by and update you all on all the classroom happenings! Reading Counts will start back up next week. Because our computer mouse was broken and the the computer lab was used for testing most of the days, the kiddos had very few opportunities to take the tests so I decided not to require it this week. We just wrapped up chapter 5 in math and will begin 6 on Tuesday. Chapter 6 is teaching 3-digit addition and subtraction. In Social Studies the kids are learning about conservation and national parks. I had a project planned about national parks but it came to my attention that 4th grade does a very similar project so I decided to not assign the project but to do a more in-depth study on national parks in class next week. In Science, they are learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. Starting in a few weeks we will begin a fun Flat Stanley project and read the Flat Stanley books. This is something the second grade does every year and the kids really enjoy it. Just a few reminders about some special things going on next week before I sign off: Next week on Thursday is the 100th day of school! Please look in your child's mail to see what snack item they are responsible for bringing to make a 100th trail mix. Also, please return the Buddy Lunch sign-up sheet ASAP. Keep in mind that the kitchen is closed this day so make sure to make plans to bring lunch that day as hot lunch will not be an option. Lastly, if there is snow on the ground still next week please send snow pants and boots with your child. If they don't have these items and it is their Big Toy day, your child will only be allowed on the sidewalk and believe me when I say they would much rather be out in the snow! Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your long and warm(er) weekend!
